What is the LSC Disaster Relief Emergency Grant Program?

The Legal Services Corporation Disaster Relief Emergency Grant Program is for LSC grantees in federally declared disaster areas that are seeking financial assistance in order to mitigate damage sustained and who have experienced a surge in demand for legal services as the result of a disaster. The instructions and materials on this page supplement the information published in the Federal Register in 2013. 

Emergency Funding Following Disasters

On occasion, LSC makes available special funding to help meet the emergency needs of its grantees located in disaster areas. When funding is available, only current LSC recipients in federally declared disaster areas, as identified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), are eligible to apply for such emergency funds. Midwest Legal Disaster Coordination Project

The LSC Midwest Legal Disaster Coordination Project is for LSC current recipients located in the designated Midwest Disaster Area to address the gaps in the delivery of disaster legal services to low-income people. Learn more.

How to apply for an Emergency Grant

To apply for a Disaster Relief Emergency Grant download and review the Notice of Availability of Funds.

You will need to download and complete the Application Form and complete it as instructed in Appendix I of the Notice of Availability of Funds. Appendix II of the Notice of Availability of Funds contains additional guidance for applicants.
